At Camp Carmangay we believe that safe, stable and healthy environments encourage youth to live in healthy ways.  OUR MISSION is to provide a cost free camp for disadvantaged youth and youth at risk between the ages of 12 - 17.  OUR GOAL is to reduce the amount of youth crime, educate youth on life skills and positive lifestyle choices, to steer them away from a life of crime, and prevention of young people commit crimes in our communities.  We want to reach youth who are struggling on a daily basis; youth who are struggling with a variety of issues such as drug use and abuse, parental neglect, mental health issues, and much much more.

Our focus is to work together with community organizations that have like minded goals and are already working with our target group.  As well though, we want to reach out to those young people who may be slipping through the cracks and don't have support systems already in place.  We take many referrals of one young person at a time and find partnerships with attending organizations to strengthen their network of positive influences and opportunities.

Mentorship and focus on individual needs along with discovery through experience make up the text of our applied programs.  Tipis, campfires, wide open spaces and lots of horses create opportunities to expand imaginations and overcome obstacles.  This leads to an understanding as to how one might conquer real life challenges.  Making the most of who you are, where you are and what you are right now is our message.  Personal pride in yourself and your community, and the power of the team concept where everyone does his/her part inevitably leads to a young person who will understand the need and benefits in accepting civic responsibility.

We are providing youth with self esteem, education, employability training, life skills and much more.  We are allowing the youth that attend an opportunity to just be kids, to enjoy the small things in life.  We are showing them healthy lifestyle choices and alternatives to TV, video games and hanging out on street corners; we are encouraging them to strive to obtain the best that life has to offer them.

We have seen that our initiative returns to society a well balanced youth that strives to achieve positive goals and obtain a better life for themselves.  They focus on giving back to their communities instead of taking or being a destructive force in society.  We reach not only the young person that attends but this opportunity and change also affects their family, friends and their communities.
